Before her first session, Jean admits she was nervous.

“Everything seems to be going digital these days, and I was worried I’d get left behind if I didn’t learn how to keep up.”

She wanted to be able to do everyday things online, like contact her doctor and Platform, send messages and book appointments.

Since joining the sessions, Jean has made huge progress.

“I’ve come a long way! I can now use a laptop confidently and even create posters for community events at Wintern Court – something I never thought I’d be able to do.”

Learning these skills has transformed Jean’s daily life. She can now book appointments online and contact services without needing help.

“The team has been so patient and supportive – they’ve really helped me grow in confidence.”

Part of something bigger

Jean says she keeps coming back because there’s always more to learn and because she loves the friendly, supportive group atmosphere. Her advice to anyone who’s unsure about joining?

“Just come along and give it a go! There’s nothing to lose, and you might surprise yourself with what you can learn.”

Our Digital Empowerment Officer, Ben added: “Jean’s progress has been incredible to watch. She’s gone from feeling anxious about technology to using it to support her community. She’s a great example of how these free, local sessions can open up new opportunities and build confidence.”

It sounded like a great opportunity to build my confidence with technology. I had a smartphone, but I didn’t really know what it could do.

Jean first heard about Platform’s free Digital4Everyone sessions from her neighbour, who thought she might enjoy learning how to use a laptop.
